Inter Milan get a rare midweek rest with no Champions League fixtures ahead of Sunday’s Serie A clash with Juventus.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
For much of the past few months, Inter Milan have hardly had a chance to catch their breath.
The Nerazzurri have been playing not just every weekend, but also in midweek matches.
There has been Serie A, but also the Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana, and Champions League.
Inter faced their last two Champions League “league phase” matches last month. They beat the likes of Sparta Prague and Monaco.
And in doing so, Inter booked their place directly in the round of sixteen of the competition.
That lack of a Champions League round of sixteen playoff round feels hugely significant for Inter.
By contrast, the Nerazzurri’s opponents for Sunday Juventus have yet to secure their spot in the knockouts.

The Bianconeri beat PSV 2-1 in the first leg of their playoff tie on Tuesday.
And next week, there will be a second leg in that tie for Thiago Motta’s team to worry about.
That is hardly an ideal situation for Juventus while preparing for a match as big as the Derby d’Italia.
And Inter, on the other hand, have had the rare opportunity to avoid that additional stress and simply take the week to train and prepare for their big weekend outing.
