Mohamed Salah might just be better than ever right now. Salah has been a consistency machine during his time at Liverpool but 2024/25 could become the pièce de résistance of Anfield career.

The Egyptian scored one and created another as Liverpool took a giant step towards the title with a 2-0 win at Manchester City on Sunday. A 2-0 win for Arne Slot’s side extended their lead to 11 points with the Reds looking more and more like champions-elect.

For Salah, it was another record-breaking afternoon. The 32-year-old has no shortage of career milestones but added several more across a memorable 90 minutes in Manchester.

Five records Mohamed Salah set against Manchester City

  1. The first Premier League player in history to register 40+ goal involvements in multiple seasons

Salah opened the scoring at Manchester City with his 25th league goal of the campaign, a strike that took him to 40 goal involvements for the campaign.

It’s a landmark that has been breached just six times previously, while Salah is the first footballer to have done it twice. He recorded 42 goals and assists in 2017/18 and now has 41 for the current campaign. There are still 11 games to go…

  1. Most assists in a Premier League season for Liverpool (16)

Salah’s set-up for Dominik Szboszlai made it 16 assists in the Premier League this season. It’s already his best return in a league campaign for Liverpool and he has set a new club record. Steve McManaman’s return of 15 assists in 1995/96 had stood for nearly two decades until Salah surpassed it this weekend.

  1. The first player to score and assist against the reigning champions in both games of a Premier League season.

Salah was equally influential in the first meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City this season. At Anfield in December, he set up Cody Gakpo for the opener and scored the second himself in a 2-0 win on Merseyside.

He repeated the feat at the Etihad, as Liverpool again triumphed. Another record in the bag for the Egyptian King.

  1. First player in a decade to score and assist in 11 league games during a single season in Europe’s top five leagues.

Across Europe’s top five leagues, it’s been 10 years since a player last scored AND assisted in as many games as Salah has this season (11). The player in question? Lionel Messi for Barcelona in 2014/15. That’s the level Salah has found this season.

  1. First Premier League player to score 25+ goals and register 15+ assists in a season

Salah leads the Premier League for goals and assists this season and has become the first player in the league’s history to reach 25+ goals and 15+ assists in a campaign.

He’s just five goal involvements from the record of 47, shared by Alan Shearer (1994/95) and Andy Coel (1993/94. The 38-game record is 44 goal involvements, achieved by both Thierry Henry (2002/03) and Erling Haaland (2022/23).

Salah is also closing in on the Premier League’s assist record of 20, and becoming just the third player this century to score 20+ goals and provide 20+ assists in one of Europe’s top five leagues. Only Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi have done so since 2000.
