Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone on Friday took advantage of the opportunity to aim a less-than-subtle jibe at capital rivals Real Madrid.

As much comes after the Argentine was drawn on some of the decisions to have gone the way of Los Blancos against Celta Vigo.

Real of course marked their return to action on Thursday night, welcoming Celta to the Santiago Bernabéu for a Copa del Rey Last-16 clash.

And, en route to an eventual 5-2 extra-time triumph, Los Blancos were the beneficiaries of what many have since labelled as some altogether questionable refereeing.

One decision in particular, which saw the visitors denied a penalty for a challenge on the part of Andriy Lunin, sparked widespread anger in Spain.

Speaking to the media during his latest press conference on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Thursday’s officiating in Madrid was put to the aforementioned Diego Simeone.

And Atlético’s headmaster pulled no punches with his reply, explaining:

“I didn’t watch the game. They told me about some incidents that happened during the match… but it’s been like that for 100 years now. I don’t know why it surprises you.”
