Before Kortrijk kicked off against Sint Truiden on the 1st of March, forward Thierry Ambrose had scored just two goals in 27 games. He ended the regular season yesterday with six goals in 30. The 27-year-old striker from Guadeloupe has been in impressive form at the business end of the season. This run, coupled with the arrival of Bernd Storck, has given Kortrijk fans a glimpse of hope that their side might be able to beat the drop.
It is clear that, playing under Storck, Ambrose has his confidence back. The former Manchester City youth product showcased that confidence with a fantastic overhead kick against OH Leuven in the sides 2-0 win on the 8th of March. He then grabbed his fourth goal in three games as they beat Gent on the final day of the regular season. This win closed the gap to Sint Truiden and the relegation play off spot to five points, a far tighter margin than any Kortrijk fan could have dreamed of when Storck came in.
Cercle Brugge and Beerschot join those two sides in the bottom four. All three of their upcoming opponents will have to be wary of Ambrose during the high tension of the play-offs.
