Cristiano Ronaldo has said he could ‘make things clear’ and fix the problems at Manchester United if given ownership of the club.
The Portuguese star scored 145 goals for the club across two spells, winning three Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson.
New United boss and Ronaldo’s fellow countryman Ruben Amorim has made a disappointing start to life at the club, losing four of his seven Premier League games in charge.
But Ronaldo says the problems at the club run much deeper than who the manager is.
Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards on Friday, he said: “I said this one and a half years ago, and I will continue to say it: The problem is not the coaches.
“It’s like an aquarium. If you have the fish inside and he’s sick and you take him out and you fix the problem and you put him again in an aquarium they will be sick again.
“The problem of Manchester United is the same. The problem is not always the coach. It’s much more than that.
“If I will be the owner of the club, I will make things clear and adjust what I think is bad there.”
Ronaldo fell out with the club and manager Erik ten Hag at the end of 2022 before moving to Saudi Arabia side Al Nassr.
And following the appointment of Amorim, Ronaldo has given him his support: “He (Amorim) did a fantastic job in Portugal with Sporting. But the Premier League is a different beast, the most competitive league in the world.
“I knew that it would be tough and they will continue the storm. But the storm will finish and the sun will rise. Fingers crossed, it will be good with him and I hope the best for Manchester United because it is a club I still love.”
Ronaldo picked up the best Middle Eastern player of 2024 award at the ceremony on Friday night.
