Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is looking for a Premier League return, as per reports.

Matic is currently plying his trade in France with Lyon, where he is tied to a contract until 2026.

The Serbian midfielder, who only moved to Lyon in January of this year from Rennes, has established himself as a crucial part of Pierre Sage’s setup, having started four of their opening five Ligue 1 games this term.

Despite a seemingly fine on-field situation, the 36-year-old has set his sights on leaving France for England.

According to The Mirror (via the Manchester Evening News), Matic is eyeing up a move to the Premier League ahead of the winter window as he is “keen to return” to England.

It is reported that the ex-Chelsea star attracted interest from Saudi Arabia this summer, but he decided to continue playing in France.

Still, it seems an opportunity to return to the Premier League could prove to be too difficult to turn down for Matic, who believes he still has a lot to offer at the top level of football.

The two-time Premier League winner was lured to Old Trafford from Stamford Bridge by Jose Mourinho in 2017.

Matic enjoyed a great start to his United career, and many believed his ability in and out of possession was key to getting the best out of superstar signing Paul Pogba. However, the Serbian struggled with a number of fitness issues and eventually left Manchester without winning any trophy in five years.

Matic reunited with Mourinho for the third time in his career by joining AS Roma upon the expiration of his contract at United in 2022. After an underwhelming time in Italy, he moved to France to play for Rennes.

Recently, the former United star took to X to criticise the club’s decision to part ways with Scott McTominay. The Red Devils agreed to sell their academy midfielder to Napoli for a fee believed to be in the region of  £25 million.

Matic suggested his former side may struggle to replace a player like McTominay. United, meanwhile, filled the Scotland international’s void by bringing in Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain late in August.
