Former QPR man Tjaronn Chery was in fine form against Gent this weekend. The 36-year-old attacker scored twice as Antwerp won 3-0 to edge closer to securing a spot in the European play-off with Charleroi. For Chery, this was also a landmark moment. The Suriname international has now scored 18 goals for the season, the best of his career. With seven assists as well, the veteran is certainly enjoying the twilight of his career in Belgium.
Chery’s previous best goalscoring season came in 2014/2015 with FC Groningen. In 42 games he scored 17 goals and provided seven assists. This form saw him earn a move to the EFL Championship to join West London side QPR. In two seasons for the blue and white hoops he scored 14 goals and provided seven assists. Chery then went on to spend time in China, Turkey and Israel before returning to the Eredivisie on loan at NEC last season. He was red hot of the side to end the campaign, with six goals and four assists in 18 games. With two games to go this season, Chery may well be able to hit 20 for the first time in his career.
