Despite a challenging fixture away at Manchester City in Gameweek 4, the Bees took the lead after just 22 seconds. Yoane Wissa’s (£6.1m) strike was the 27th fastest goal in Premier League history.
Indeed, Brentford were unlucky not to extend their impressive start to the match when Nathan Collins (£4.5m) forced a good save from Ederson (£5.5m). Bryan Mbeumo (£7.1m) set up this opportunity, before another of his numerous chances created fell to Ethan Pinnock (£4.5m). No FPL defender had more goal attempts than his three, of which two were on target and from inside the penalty area.
Ultimately, the four-in-a-row champions were able to turn things around thanks to Erling Haaland (£15.2m). However, goalkeeper Mark Flekken (£4.5m), was outstanding. He pulled off a string of impressive second-half saves - five in total, meaning that, even though the clean sheet was lost, he still registered a save point for his owners.
The loss of Wissa at half-time through an injury that looks set to keep him out for a couple of months will disappoint his owners. Kevin Schade (£5.4m) replaced Wissa and, if he starts against Spurs in Gameweek 5, could be about to become FPL’s next big bandwagon.
The 22-year-old is a versatile attacker who occasionally played as Freiburg’s centre-forward. Listed as a midfielder in this game, it therefore means he could bring out-of-position potential ahead of a fixture run that faces only one of last season’s top four during the next 14 matches.
Signed in January 2023, Schade was able to assist Mbeumo in Gameweek 3 and has registered a big chance in both of his starts.
The Bees have nine goals from their last four clashes with Tottenham Hotspur and currently rank joint-fifth for big chances (12). Should Schade get the nod, he’ll be the latest contender in a competitive £5.5m-ish midfield price bracket.
A trio of the Gameweek’s top ten point scorers belonged to the Manchester United backline, after their 3-0 win at Southampton. André Onana (£5.0m) saved a penalty to see him register 13 points.
He, however, wasn’t the only goalkeeper to save a penalty, as Chelsea’s Robert Sánchez (£4.5m) did the same at Bournemouth. Sanchez registered an impressive 15 points and was one of the week's top scorers.
Joining the Spaniard and Matthijs de Ligt (£5.0m) on 15 points was Arsenal’s Gabriel (£6.0m), whose goal was a frustrating torment to the many more who instead own centre-back partner William Saliba (£6.0m).
Elsewhere, both Ollie Watkins (£8.9m) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.4m) netted twice. Forwards like them and Jamie Vardy (£5.6m) are among the most-bought individuals heading to Gameweek 5. This is mostly due to the injury doubts placed upon highly-selected pair João Pedro (£5.7m) and Alexander Isak (£8.4m).
The former was Gameweek 4’s most-bought player, yet was a surprise absentee due to an international knock. The latter had to be taken off at half-time because of an eye problem.
A huge Sunday clash sees an unstoppable force - Haaland - meet the immovable object of Arsenal’s watertight defence. The top two from consecutive seasons will be hard to call from an FPL perspective.
But to go against Haaland, there needs to be an obvious armband alternative. Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) might be the answer, despite blanking at home to Nottingham Forest. However, upcoming opponents Bournemouth are just as tricky.
Those who own Watkins will be tempted by Aston Villa’s hosting of Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, managers should ensure he is available first, after being pictured icing an injury in the aftermath of Villa’s Champions League fixture.
