Goalkeeper Mike Maignan will start for AC Milan in the derby against AC Milan.
Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Frenchman will start despite his injury scare. Meanwhile, they also anticipate that Emerson Royal will start the match.
Milan received a major injury scare in view of tomorrow’s derby against Inter during their Champions League opener against Liverpool.
Goalkeeper Maignan had to come off the pitch during the second half.
The former Lille keeper had a couple of difficult moments, and following a collision with teammate Fiyako Tomori he finally had to come off the pitch.
This has become something of an unfortunate theme for Maignan at Milan.
There would certainly be no denying the Frenchman’s quality and importance to his team.
Maignan was a key man for the Rossoneri as they won the Serie A title in the 2021-22 season in particular.
However, particularly by the standards of his position, availability has been an issue for the 28-year-old.
Wednesday’s match against Liverpool saw Maignan deal with a couple physical issues before coming off.
That was not the first time that the French international has required some medical attention in midmatch.
But according to the Corriere, Maignan has managed to overcome his physical problems.
This means that the Frenchman will be in the Rossoneri starting eleven against Inter tomorrow.
Against Liverpool, young keeper Lorenzo Torriani got his full debut for Milan after Maignan came off.
The Frenchman’s usual backup Marco Sportiello was absent through injury.
Therefore there looked to be a risk of the teenage keeper having to start tomorrow.
But according to the Corriere, Maignan will be able to start.
Meanwhile, the newspaper reports, Milan captain Davide Calabria will drop out of the lineup tomorrow.
The Corriere anticipate that former Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona defender Emerson Royal will instead start on the right of the Rossoneri’s back four.
The newspaper’s complete predicted Milan starting eleven is as follows:
Milan (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson Royal, Tomori, Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Fofana; Pulisic, Reijnders, Leao; Morata.
