Frank Lampard has returned to management, landing a new job with Championship side Coventry City.

The former Chelsea midfielder has been out of work since June 2023 following his hectic stint as the Blues' interim head coach, but now returns to the league where his management career began with Derby County in 2018.

Lampard, who has inked a two-and-a-half-year contract with Coventry, will be joined at the Coventry Building Society Arena by long-standing allies Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, both of whom worked under the boss at Chelsea and Everton.

"I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as Head Coach," said Coventry owner Doug King. "Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this League to be successful.

"His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a Club are striving to reach."

Coventry find themselves 17th in the Championship, two points above the relegation zone after just four wins from 17 games. The pressure is on for Lampard's first game - a visit from 21st-placed Cardiff City on Saturday.
