Suspensions will work the same way as last season in the Supercoppa Italiana.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They also report that Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, and Atalanta will play for a prize of €8 million.
In just under a week, the Supercoppa Italiana will begin.
As with last season, the competition will be a four-team mini-tournament rather than just a one-off match.
Inter – who have won the last three editions of the Supercoppa – will be in the competition as last season’s Serie A title winners.
Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri’s city rivals AC Milan finished second in the table last campaign.
Then, last season’s Coppa Italia winners Juventus will participate. As will the team they beat in the final, Atalanta.
Inter will face Atalanta in one semifinal. Juventus will take on AC Milan in the other.
One important aspect to note regarding the Supercoppa is how suspensions will work.
As with last season, yellow cards from Serie A will not carry over. Therefore, there will be a kind of “blank slate” and players will all be available, should they be fit.
This is to ensure that teams have as strong a squad as possible for the Supercoppa.
However, any bookings that players pick up in Supercoppa matches will count towards potential suspensions in the league.
Meanwhile, the Gazzetta report, matches will not have extra time.
If in any of the matches the score is level after ninety minutes plus stoppage time they will go straight to a shootout.
In terms of prize money, the winner of the Supercoppa will receive €8 million.
The losing finalist, meanwhile, will receive €5 million. And each of the two losing semifinalists will, receive €1 million.
