AC Milan secured the win in their game against Juventus last night thanks to a quick turnaround in the second half. As highlighted by a report, Sergio Conceicao made the right moves to spark some life into the team.
Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) has analysed the game, stating that Milan made the most of a Juventus side that decided to sit back. On the flip side, Conceicao also deserves credit for his changes.
After what can only be described as a dull first half, as the pink newspaper begins, Conceicao managed to send a more passionate and attacking-minded team onto the pitch. The addition of Yunus Musah also made a big difference, while Tijjani Reijnders was moved to a more advanced role.
The Rossoneri did get a bit lucky with the goals, but they deserved it for the change of spirit in the second half and the moves of Conceicao. The empathetic embrace at the end of the match, between the coach and the winning team, is also an excellent first step in the right direction.
On Monday, the former Inter player will experience his first derby as Milan coach. The feeling, based on the semi-finals, is that the Nerazzurri are on a completely different level. However, football is strange and the derby even more so, after all Paulo Fonseca won the first of the season.
Perhaps with Rafael Leao at Conceicao’s disposal as well, Milan will come at Inter with an attacking spirit on Monday. Indeed, lifting the Supercoppa Italiana trophy would be a much-needed morale boost to climb the standings in the league.
After a first half in complete control, Thiago Motta was unable to keep Juventus from sitting back and defending the lead – as seen against Fiorentina as well. He sent the wrong messages by taking Dusan Vlahovic off just 20 minutes into the second half, increasing Milan’s advantage.
It was strange to see, especially since he took over Juventus precisely to educate courage, after three years of going backwards. The second defeat of the season is the worst way to approach the tough schedule in January: derby, Atalanta, Milan and Napoli. Thiago can no longer make mistakes. Draws are no longer enough.
