Alvaro Morata scored his first goal in over two months last night, breaking his goal drought at just the right moment. That being said, this didn’t compromise his usual playing style, as highlighted by a report.
As today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport states (see photo below), Morata has never been a striker who lives solely for goals. He has always been a fighter, a runner, and a player who works incredibly hard for the team, putting the ‘we’ before ‘I’.
In the summer, when he was signed by the club, he stated that ‘I will run and press like a dog with this shirt’. He has definitely lived up to that, but ahead of the game against Empoli last night, he hadn’t scored in over two months: the 3-0 win against Lecce on September 27.
Then, he scored with a wonderful header inside the box and last night, it was another goal from close range. He made the most of a rebound and found the back of the net with a great finish, showcasing that he can be a ‘bomber’ when he gets the chance.
At Milan, the No.7’s role is very similar to the one he has with Spain’s national team, often dropping down to open up spaces for Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and others. Even yesterday, the striker didn’t shoot often (just two shots) while working hard as usual (three balls recovered, two fouls committed).
