It was a five-star display from Celtic FC Women on Wednesday evening as the Ghirls ran out 5-0 winners over Queen’s Park.

With five different scorers getting themselves on the scoresheet, the Hoops made it two wins from two after returning from the international break.

Following Sunday’s return to action against Motherwell on Sunday, Elena Sadiku’s side were quickly back on league duties, playing out the rescheduled match against the newly-promoted side.

With the Celts looking to continue building momentum with a big few weeks ahead, the squad once again made a strong start to proceedings.

Opening the scoring inside six minutes, the Ghirls kicked-off what was a dominant display with an early goal through Murphy Agnew.

Making a well-timed run to the front post, the American forward was on hand to turn home Jenny Smith’s cross into the back of the net.

Somehow, that advantage wasn’t quickly doubled as Saoirse Noonan saw two efforts, superbly saved by the Queen’s Park shot-stopper.

However, the next goal soon came for the Hoops as Sadiku’s side scored three goals in four minutes to quickly take their lead to four goals.

The first to get in on the act was captain, Kelly Clark, who grabbed her first goal of the campaign, nodding the ball home after rising highest from a corner.

Just two minutes later, Shannon McGregor played her part in making the score 3-0 after directing a shot towards goal, which was initially well saved by the goalkeeper. However, the ball soon landed in the back of the net via a defender.

Lucy Ashworth-Clifford added a further goal during a hugely impressive four-minute spell, smashing the ball home on her right foot from close range, finding the top corner.

Heading into the second half, the commanding lead allowed Sadiku to make changes to her side and introduce fresh faces with more goals in their sights.

On a few occasions, the Ghirls came close, with Jenny Smith striking the crossbar and McGregor seeing another effort from inside the area well saved.

They were made to wait for that fifth goal. However, it eventually came the way of a substitute Morgan Cross, who rounded off another positive night.

Latching on to a pinpoint pass from Clark at the back, the forward did well to lift the ball over the goalkeeper and find the back of the net.

Two wins from two games after the international break, leaves the Hoops in a good place heading into a busy few weeks of domestic and European action.

It was the ideal way for Celtic boss Elena Sadiku to celebrate her birthday, with another three points delivered on Wednesday evening.

Next up, is a break from league duties for the Celts, with a Sky Sports Cup quarter-final clash against Glasgow City on the horizon this Sunday at New Douglas Park (KO 4:10pm).
