After seemingly endless speculation on the matter, Borussia Mönchengladbach keeper Jan Olschowsky is finally receiving his developmental loan-out. The club's one-timed presumed new #1 will head to third division side Alemania Aachen for the duration of the season. Gladbach confirmed the loan on Thursday afternoon.
The 23-year-old departs his youth academy side for the very first time in his career. Mortiz Nicolas' unexpected rise left him without prospects on the BMG roster for quite some time and he certainly counted as one of the players sporting director Roland Virkus hoped to move during the current transfer window.
Olschowsky made his last top flight appearance on match-day 33 of the 2022/23 campaign. There remains hope for the youngster as Nicolas himself only got a shot as working as Gladbach's #1 after himself being loaned out four times.
“Jan is a young goalkeeper," Virkus noted in a club statement. "It is now important for him to get match practice at a high sporting level. We hope to achieve this by loaning him to Alemannia Aachen."
“When the option came up to join Alemannia on loan, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to do this," Olschowsky himself added, "In Aachen, I can play at a decent level for a big, traditional club with a lot of momentum in a strong third division."
