FC Barcelona are reportedly looking to make some additions to their forward line in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Recent reports on the topic indicated that in addition to a left winger, the Blaugranes were also looking to incorporate a young striker in their team, who would not only bring some competition for Robert Lewandowski but would also replace him in the medium and long terms.
However, it is not clear whether the Catalans will make such a signing as Fichajes reports that Hansi Flick has informed the Barcelona hierarchy, including Joan Laporta and Deco, that he does not want the club to invest in a center-forward, as he believes there are some other areas of the team that require more attention.
In the last few months, the Blaugranes have been linked with several high-profile centre-forwards, including the likes of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres.
However, Flick fully trusts his Polish striker to remain effective as the team’s focal point in attack despite him reaching close to 37 years of age. Thus, the German wants a new striker to only play a supporting role for Lewandowski, which Gyokeres is not willing to do. Thus, Flick does not want his club to waste its efforts in his pursuit.
On the other hand, the head coach wants Barcelona to focus on areas like the fullbacks and wings, which are in greater need of strengthening than the center-forward position. In this regard, the German wants players who would provide greater depth and defensive solidity to his team.
In this changed scenario, as per the report, the Catalans will rethink their strategy in the market next summer and will redirect their efforts to sign a player who is more in line with the demands and requirements of their head coach, even though it remains to be seen which players they will sign for this purpose.
