The Magpies were promoted back to the Football League through the National League play-offs in 2023, after a remarkable title race with Wrexham, the likes of which will likely not be seen again for some time.

Under owners Christoffer and Alexander Reedtz, the world’s oldest Football League club are potentially just months away from a return to the third tier for the first time since 2015.

The club have made hugely positive strides during the Danish brothers’ six years at the helm, but making the step-up to League One would be their biggest achievement so far.

They are loved by the Magpies’ fanbase and have received plaudits for their measured decision-making and care for the club.

Here, Football League World takes a look at who the Reedtz brothers are, and how they made their money.

The Reedtz brothers run a data analysis firm

When the Reedtz brothers bought Notts from previous owner Alan Hardy back in 2019, they inherited a football club that was at its lowest ever point.

The Magpies had just been relegated into non-league for the first time in their long and storied history. Even the club’s very existence was under threat, with a critical court date a matter of days away when the brothers completed their takeover.

Since then, they have overseen an incredible turnaround and have restored hope and excitement back to Meadow Lane.

A key aspect of their successful time at the club has been their prior knowledge of football.

The Reedtz brothers run a football data analysis company called Football Radar, a company that “specialise in rating players and predicting the outcome of matches and competitions.”

The company is a “leading provider” of betting advice and features teams of analysts focusing on leagues all around the world.

While it is unclear exactly how much influence the company’s resources and knowledge actually have at Notts, it is certainly evident that the owners’ understanding of both football and the data within it plays a huge part in the Magpies’ recruitment.

In a system not too dissimilar to the ones employed by the likes of Brentford and Brighton, Notts seek to find value from unexpected areas in their recruitment. Potential signings are analysed meticulously to ensure they are the perfect fit for both the style of boss Stuart Maynard and the club as a whole.

That data-heavy focus has helped them unearth stars like Macaulay Langstaff from non-league, but has also delivered hidden gems like Ruben Rodrigues and Alassana Jatta from elsewhere in Europe.

It is also unclear just how wealthy the Reedtz brothers actually are, but they are never rash with their money. If an opportunity arises to bring a player to the club who they have been targeting for a long time, and they feel would be an ideal fit, then money is made available to bring them in.

If that isn’t the case, then attention is turned to other, more cost-effective options.

The future looks bright under the Reedtz brothers

Ever since they first walked through the door at Meadow Lane in summer 2019, the Danish brothers have made it clear that their purchase of the Nottingham club is so much more than just a vanity project.

They revealed on the day they purchased the club that it had been a lifelong dream to be involved in professional football, and it’s clear to see that it means so much more to them than just a trophy asset.

Although the brothers are understated for the most part, there is a calculated drive to them and a desire for steady, but constant improvement for the club.

They have proved in their handling of both managers and players that it is never a case of promotion at all costs, preferring instead to take a much more measured, long-term approach, knowing that if they continue to make sensible and informed decisions, the club will progress at a stable and manageable rate.

There have even been countless off-field improvements to the club, with significant sums spent on ensuring the playing surface is in exceptional conditions. This season has even seen the development of ‘The Nest’, the club's very own state-of-the-art fan zone, which has proved to be an immensely popular addition to the matchday experience at Meadow Lane.

All things considered, it is unsurprising that the Reedtz brothers are held in such high regard by the Notts faithful. They handle the club with care and interest and clearly have nothing but positive intentions at heart.
