Following the delay and cancellation of Football Manager 25 we’re all stuck playing Football Manager 2024 for at least another six months, maybe even longer.

The last official update to FM24 was in March last year, reflecting the January 2024 transfer window. With last season ending in May, and two more transfer windows since then, it’s safe to say a lot has changed in the world of football and the default FM24 database is starting to feel very out of date.

What’s Kylian Mbappe doing at PSG still? Why’s Pedro Neto at Wolves, Dominic Solanke at Bournemouth and Conor Gallagher at Chelsea? Kevin De Bruyne’s still only 31, just retire already so I stand a chance! And Alejandro Garnacho… surely he can’t still only be 18? Even David Moyes is still West Ham manager – what year is it again?

If that’s frustrating you, don’t worry, the Football Manager community has come together to update the FM24 Database with all the latest promotions, relegations and transfers. More than that it updates all the players attributes including their ages and their abilities, it’s as close to a new game as you’re going to get.

All you have to do is download and install the Sort It Out SI FM24 Data Update. Doing so is easy in just four simple steps.

1. Visit the Sort It Out SI website and click the big green “Download FM24 Data Update” button. 2. Extract the zip file to your computer so you’re left with a folder called “Football Manager 2024” that contains an “Editor Data” folder and lots of .fmf files. 3. Move the contents of this “Editor Data” folder to the following location

  • Windows: Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2024/editor data
  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2024/editor data

4. Start a new Football Manager 2024 save The database is updated every single day so whenever you start a new save just remember to follow these steps again and you’ll always have the most up to date Football Manager 2024 Database.

Tips and Common Issues

Make sure to avoid these common issues when installing a FM24 Data Update

– Make sure all the .fmf files are directly under the “Editor Data” folder and not in a sub folder. It’s common to accidentally move the downloaded “Editor Data” folder into the existing one so it looks like “Editor Data/Editor Data” make sure you haven’t accidentally done this. – Remember to remove existing editor data files. If you’ve previously installed any other updates they can interfere. Either delete or move the files out of the “editor data” folder first

– If you’re having trouble finding the right location on Mac an easy trick is to open Finder and click “Go” from the menubar and select “Go to Folder” (alternatively press Shift+CMD+G) then copy and paste “~/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2024/editor data” and it will take you straight to the right location. – On windows sometimes there are two folders a “public” one and another one. Make sure not to use the public one.

What’s in an FM24 Data Update?

The community made FM24 Data Update’s refresh nearly every aspect of Football Manager 2024 bringing it up to date with all the latest changes as of today. Here’s exactly what it does and doesn’t include.

Included

– All the latest promotions and relegations: Burnley, Luton and Sheffield Utd swapped with Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich. – All the latest transfers: Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid, Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid, Michael Olise at Bayern. – All the latest manager movements: Tuchel at England, Moyes at Everton, Slot at Liverpool. – Update contract lengths: Liverpool will have to deal with Trent, Salah and Van Dijk just like in real life – Updated player ages – Update player abilities and attributes – Thousands of new Youth Players Not Included – The game still starts in July 2023: Unfortunately it’s not possible to make it start in 2024 or 2025. – New Champions League Format: You still have to wait a year before the new format comes in rather than having it happen in your first season. Due to difference in the number of teams involved that means some teams don’t play in Europe when they should.

So what are you waiting for? Get stuck in, load up a new save and prove your Football Manager credentials. Can you get more points than Southampton have in real life? That shouldn’t be too hard. Or maybe do better than the mighty Pep has done this season with Manchester City — surely easier now with their four new January signings?
