Bayern Munich will look to mark the end of a productive Hinrunde with a victory against RB Leipzig. The two sides will meet on matchday 15 of the Bundesliga on Friday. Vincent Kompany’s men remain at the top of the table despite suffering a shock 2-1 defeat away at Mainz last weekend. Courtesy of this defeat, Bayern’s lead at the top has been trimmed to four points.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig are narrowly holding out the fourth spot in the points table. They are currently six points behind Bayern. A win on Friday for RB Leipzig will nicely set up the title race for the second half of the season. The visitors come into Friday’s game on the back of two consecutive wins against Holstein Kiel and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Considering Bayern’s form in the Bundesliga this season, the defeat against Mainz was an anomaly. They have consistently dominated teams in the league under Kompany and enjoyed an unbeaten run in the league until last weekend. Kompany and the Bavarian faithful will hope to see a strong response from the team at Allianz Arena and round off a productive first half of the season with a victory against one of their title rivals.
Kompany delivered positive team news for the clash against RB Leipzig. Harry Kane will return to the team after recovering from a hamstring injury. Alphonso Davies is also back in team training, giving Kompany more options in the left-back position. Mathys Tel will strengthen the options in attack after recovering from a minor injury. Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, Hiroki Ito, Manuel Neuer, João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Josip Stanišić will miss the final game of 2024 due to injury.
Bayern are yet to lose a game at home in the Bundesliga this season. It is going to take a special effort from RB Leipzig to get a positive result on Friday.
