The Terriers are on the hunt for a new man in the dugout
Huddersfield Town are heading towards a big summer reset, after a disastrous second half of the season saw them fall well short of the League One play-offs.
With just two wins in his 10 games as interim manager, which included six straight losses to end the season, Jon Worthington is expected to resume his role in the youth set-up at Huddersfield Town after the conclusion of this season.
Therefore, bringing in the right manager will be at the top of the list of summer priorities for Terriers owner Kevin Nagle, as he is looking to avoid another collapse, which he described as a "disease" on his X account.
With Huddersfield desperate to get back to the Championship at the second time of asking, they'll be looking to aim high with their next managerial appointment. Therefore, it's no surprise that Championship promotion heroes are being talked about as potential replacements in the dugout at the John Smith's Stadium.
Huddersfield Town have been without a permanent manager since early March when they sacked Michael Duff.
An upturn in form under Jon Worthington may have led him to be in line to make his interim run permanent, but his 10 games in charge saw Huddersfield pick up just six points - only relegated Shrewsbury Town and Bristol Rovers picked up less in that time.
So, who is being linked with the job ahead of the 2025/26 season, then?
The latest big update surrounds David Wagner with it being reported via Talksport's Alex Crook that Huddersfield have offered Wagner the chance to re-join the club.
Terriers fans would be happy to see the man who brought them Premier League promotion back in the dugout purely for sentimental reasons.
FLW"s Huddersfield Town fan pundit, Greame Rayner, believes that this would be the "feel-good" appointment which would get Huddersfield fans optimistic, and ultimately, his track record would suggest that he would be well-suited to mounting a League One promotion charge, with his last season in management ending in a Championship play-off campaign with Norwich City.
Also high on the odds is former Luton Town boss, Rob Edwards, who, like David Wagner, knows what it's like to take a club to the Premier League, having done so with the Hatters in the 2022/23 season.
David Prutton did state that Edwards may have his sights set on a club in higher divisions in an exclusive interview with FLW, but, after being in the dugout for large parts of Luton's second successive relegation down into League One, a job in the third-tier may serve as a way to build his rapport back up to what it was this time last season.
No matter who takes the reins at the start of the season, it will mean a fifth manager in just two years since Kevin Nagle took full ownership of Huddersfield Town.
The American businessman has drawn blanks since Neil Warnock stepped down in September 2023, with Darren Moore and Andre Breitenreiter contributing to a second-tier relegation, and Michael Duff failing to last a full season in League One, despite a positive start.
In a statement on his X account, the Huddersfield owner promised that he would do better to give the Huddersfield Town fans what they deserve next season, and to eradicate the "disease" which caused the mid-season collapse this time round.
It took nine seasons for the Terriers to achieve promotion, the last time they spent time in League One, and many around the club will be hoping that it won't be as long this time around.
