It was another damaging afternoon for Sheffield United as they were beaten 2-1 by bottom side Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Saturday.

Just over a week ago, Sheffield United sat top of the Championship table and looked in pole position to secure their return to the Premier League, but their automatic promotion push has fallen apart after a disastrous week.

After back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Oxford United and Millwall, it seemed as though the Blades were heading for a much-needed victory when Jesurun Rak-Sakyi gave them the lead against Plymouth just before half-time.

United maintained their advantage until the 81st minute when Ryan Hardie levelled for the Pilgrims, and their afternoon went from bad to worse seven minutes later when Muhamed Tijani fired home a dramatic late winner to condemn Chris Wilder's men to a third consecutive loss.

That was not the end of the drama as, shortly after the full-time whistle, Wilder was involved in a confrontation with some of the Plymouth players, with the Blades boss appearing to take exception to their post-match celebrations, and the angry scenes continued in the tunnel.

Speaking after the game, Wilder attempted to play down the incident, stating that "it was nothing", but it only further underlined the growing pressure on United, who are now five points behind second-placed Burnley and leaders Leeds United.

When asked for his thoughts on the post-match scenes at Plymouth, FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, from the YouTube channel Blades Ramble, admitted that the pressure of the automatic promotion race seems to be affecting Wilder and his players, and he questioned whether the 57-year-old can regain his composure ahead of a potential play-off campaign.

"I'm a huge fan of Chris Wilder, but I don't think he covered himself in glory with his antics post-match against Plymouth," Jimmy said.

"I think it's really difficult at the moment for everybody involved at the club. The last three games have been soul-destroying for a lot of us.

"It's quite apparent, as much as he may deny it, that the pressure is getting to Chris Wilder as much as it is getting to everybody else involved in the club.

"That's no doubt going to be another heavy fine for us to face, and the huge question now is can he pick himself up in order to bring the club back to where we want to be?

"It's looking very much like the play-offs, and if that is going to be the case, we need to hit a little bit of form going into them, but at the moment, we're struggling to find it."

It had been plain sailing for Sheffield United for much of this season, but their automatic promotion hopes are now hanging in the balance after a nightmare week.

If the results on the pitch were not concerning enough, it seems as though Wilder is struggling to deal with the pressure of the run-in, which has been highlighted by his recent comments criticising some supporters for their reaction to the defeat at Oxford, as well as his confrontation with the Plymouth players on Saturday.

United welcome relegation-threatened Cardiff City to Bramall Lane on Good Friday before travelling to Turf Moor for a crunch meeting with Burnley on Easter Monday, but ahead of a potentially defining weekend, there are big question marks hanging over Wilder and his squad.
