Hull City are keen on a move for Millwall's experienced and versatile defender Murray Wallace.

This is according to Alan Nixon via Patreon, with the journalist stating that City are looking at acquiring the services of the 32-year-old left-footer in order to aid their survival bid.

The Tigers have made five signings since the start of the window up to now, with Matt Crooks, Joe Gelhardt, Kyle Joseph, Nordin Amrabat and Lincoln Henrique making up the quintet and offering a variety of skillsets and experience to Ruben Selles' side.

Plenty of other deals are also potentially in the pipeline, such as AS Monaco's Belgian midfielder, Eliot Matazo, with Hull said to have agreed a £3m fee for his services.

Meanwhile, Carl Rushworth saw his loan from Brighton and Hove Albion terminated on Wednesday afternoon, whilst Ryan Giles has now completed a temporary switch to Middlesbrough after continued interest in the full-back from Michael Carrick.

Hull have been linked with an abundance of targets across the winter window, which has proven to be the norm in recent seasons, but it has been made no secret that this one in particular, is crucial for the club's short, and subsequently, long-term ambitions, as the East Yorkshire side look to beat the drop into League One.

Left-back has been a problem position for the Tigers for quite some time, and given the uncertainty which has surrounded Giles' whereabouts since the beginning of the window, plenty of names in this field have been linked with a switch to the MKM Stadium.

Greg Taylor of Celtic was the first of those to crop up, whilst it was reported on Wednesday afternoon that a deal had been agreed between the Tigers and Southampton for former Leeds United and Burnley full-back Charlie Taylor, although a decision from the 31-year-old is yet to be made.

And, just minutes after Giles' short-term return to the Riverside Stadium was announced, the aforementioned Nixon has reported that Hull are keen on striking a deal with the Lions to acquire the services of Wallace, who has made over 250 appearances at this level and can play at both left-back and centre-back.

The report continues by saying that Alex Neil's side are expected to part ways with Wallace, who signed his most recent contract extension in 2022, and that the full-back is open to returning to the north, having made 145 appearances for Scunthorpe United and 60 for Huddersfield Town earlier in his career.

City supporters have clamoured for more Championship experience to be brought into the squad, and Wallace can provide that in bucket loads given his prior record, but a lack of gametime so far this season does make for some reservations.

The Scot suffered a back injury at the tail end of last season, and only made two appearances for the Lions between August and November, but did enjoy a run of eight successive starts at centre-back alongside Japhet Tanganga in Jake Cooper's absence.

However, as the imposing defender returned from injury against - ironically against Hull - last week and suffered the misfortune of an own goal from Millwall's point of view, Wallace was demoted back to the substitute bench.

Wallace's know-how would be welcomed in the short-term as Selles continues to make the Tigers more defensively resolute, so a loan deal or short-term contract would make sense in this situation, allowing all parties to potentially assess their options in the summer.

Hull return to Championship action on Friday night against second-place Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, looking for their first league win in this part of the Steel City since 2011, and one which could see them rise as high as 19th for a brief period if they were to upset the odds.
