We took a look at the state of play as Hull City search for a new manager
Hull City are searching for a new manager after Tim Walter was relieved of his duties last week, and it's fair to say that the club are working hard to appoint a new one in the near future.
While Walter endured a dismal tenure at the club which has left them lingering in the lower echelons of the Championship table, it's still an attractive job for managers, and the backing of the ambitious Acun Ilicali means that there will be plenty of interested parties.
With a busy festive period coming up, Hull will want a new manager in the dugout with plenty of points to play for, and with that in mind here is the latest news as the Tigers search for a new boss.
A report from Hull Live has revealed that Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace, along with Reading boss Ruben Selles are two of the names in the frame to become the Tigers' new boss.
Eustace has done an excellent job with Blackburn this season after previously doing a good job with Birmingham City, with the club's relegation after his departure only helping his stock to rise, while Selles has impressed in difficult circumstances at Reading.
The Spaniard had a brief spell at Southampton during the 2022/23 season when they were relegated from the Premier League, and took over at Reading in the summer of 2023 against a backdrop of uncertainty at the club with financial issues thanks to Dai Yongge's ownership.
However, Selles has Reading in the play-off mix, and it's understandable why Hull are interested in acquiring his services.
Hull owner Ilicali has claimed that six interviews have taken place since the weekend, with more than 30 applications for the job taking place since Walter was relieved of his duties.
Hull Live have also claimed that a manager could be appointed before the Tigers' next game, showing that this is a fast-moving process, and Ilicali is keen to waste no time given his side's precarious position in the Championship table.
Speaking to Hull Live, Ilicali explained that there was plenty of demand for the manager's job at the MKM Stadium. He said: "We don't want to wait too long for this approach. It's not the time to lose time, I don't think. We have already done six interviews with very good, high-quality coaches. Our aim is to not leave too long (before an appointment) if we can. As soon as possible, we will make an approach.
"I can explain it like this; there are some positive things that we lived with our (previous) managers until now, and there are some negative things that we have lived with our managers until now.
"These are all important names, and I wouldn't be upset if any of them came to our club, but we have to analyse, analyse, analyse from our side and get to the right conclusion. I think there is a possibility that if we are satisfied, then we can make an early move."
While the likes of Selles and Eustace who are currently in work have been looked at by Hull, there are plenty of managers currently without jobs who have also been looked at.
Hull Live have reported that the likes of Slavisa Jokanovic, Chris Hughton, Alex Neil, Steven Schumacher and Mark Robins have all been looked at by the club, although further reports suggest it's unlikely to be Robins.
There are plenty of quality managers on that list who have experience of winning promotions, and Hull have a wealth of experience to choose from should they appoint one of the aforementioned managers.
The club's head of recruitment, Jared Dublin, has worked with Schumacher and Neil previously, so it remains to be seen if that gives them an advantage, but with a fast-moving appointment process, it looks like supporters won't have to wait too long to find out who their new boss will be.
