With the Championship awaiting, there has been talk about how well-equipped Wrexham are for the second tier of English football.

Naturally, many believe consolidating at that level would represent success for the club, given how quickly they have risen through the Football League.

Yet, taking to social media, McElhenney indicated that Wrexham will aim high once again.

If I’m being honest I don’t even know what the word “consolidation” means.”

Wrexham AFC will need investment to compete in the Championship

This is a great message from McElhenney, and the fans are certain to appreciate it, as they have enjoyed incredible success since the takeover was complete.

Even with the money that was ploughed into the club by the owners, few expected Wrexham to win promotion this season, so the players and Parkinson deserve huge credit for that.

The step up from League One to the Championship is a massive one, which is why many observers feel it may be too much for the current group unless serious investment arrives.

But, it would be wrong to write Wrexham off considering the progress they have made over the past few years, and the owners have shown they will put funds in for the club to be competitive.

Obviously, this is a different level, but Wrexham have increased their revenue very well over the years, and that will only continue now they are in the Championship, which brings a bigger spotlight.

So, you would expect Parkinson and the recruitment team to have a decent budget, and it will be about bringing in players who enhance the XI.

It’s going to be a huge challenge for Wrexham, but they have just made history with three successive promotions, so they won’t be scared of what’s facing them - which is evident by McElhenney’s message.

Right now, they will still be celebrating the latest achievement, but a big summer awaits, and it will be intriguing to see what the Wrexham team looks like when the transfer deadline passes later this year.
