Cartlon Cole has expressed his embarrassment for Mason Mount following Chelsea’s win against Manchester United on Friday night.
Chelsea ground out a hard fought 1-0 win with Marc Cucurella heading home a brilliant Reece James cross in the second half.
The win means Chelsea remain on course to qualify for the Champions League, but must beat Nottingham Forest to guarantee their return to a competition they’ve previously won twice.
It wasn’t a great game and neither team played particularly well, but the Blues were able to produce a moment of quality when they desperately needed it.
James and Cucurella combined to great effect, and Maresca explained afterwards why he thinks the Spaniard has done so well this season.

Friday’s game saw Mount return to Stamford Bridge after joining United for an initial £55m in the summer of 2023, with the Chelsea academy graduate heavily booed by the home faithful every time he touched the ball.
Mount has had a difficult time at Old Trafford, and has been limited by injury to just 44 appearances in nearly two seasons.
Cole, a former Blue had some choice words for Mount after the game, and claimed he felt embarrassed for the 26-year-old.
“I’m embarrassed for Mason Mount,” he told talkSPORT as cited on X.com.
“He left Chelsea to go to Manchester United and he thought the grass was going to be greener, and it isn’t. He might as well have stayed.”
Whilst Mount chose to leave Chelsea, one player who won’t be leaving is James, despite reports linking him with an exit in recent months.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea haven’t ever considered selling their captain, and he made his 25th appearance of the campaign against the Red Devils.

James has struggled with injury again this season, but since returning in January he’s managed to stay fit which is huge for him on a personal level.
The Blues will hope James can have an injury free campaign next season, because him being available on a regular basis is a game changer for Chelsea.
