Referees will use the stadium public address system to announce the final decision following a visit to the VAR pitchside monitor, or upon the conclusion of factual matters such as accidental handball by a goalscorer or offside judgements.

The trial will run across all semi-final ties, with Arsenal v Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool the first games selected for the experiment. The reverse fixtures will also feature the trial system.

Several FIFA events – including the 2023 Women's World Cup – have already used the in-stadium announcements for VAR decisions.
