Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City defender Ruben Dias is facing ‘three or four weeks’ out with a muscular injury.
The centre-back sustained the issue during last weekend’s derby defeat to Manchester United and will now miss Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa and the club’s upcoming schedule.
It’s a big blow to the Blues, who are enduring a torrid run of results. The defeat to Manchester United was their fifth in seven league games, while it’s now just one win in 11 across all competitions.
“[He will be out for] three or four weeks. It was a muscular injury, [after] 75 minutes against Manchester United he felt something. He is so strong and he stayed on the pitch and now he is injured,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference.
There’s better news on John Stones and Manuel Akanji with the defensive duo available for this weekend’s game.
On Stones, Guardola added: “Of course it is important he is back and at his best. When you are injured for three or four weeks you need time to get back to your best but of course he is important. An important player for us for many years.
“[Manuel] Akanji is back training the last two days which is good for us.”
