Inter Miami have landed their new head coach after Tata Martino parted ways with the club.
The south Florida club unveiled former Barcelona and Argentina star Javier Mascherano as their latest boss — his first professional managerial gig.
The 40-year-old won 19 titles as a teammate of Lionel Messi, and no doubt got the stamp of approval from the superstar to take over at Chase Stadium for the 2025 campaign.
“To be able to lead a Club like Inter Miami is an honor for me, and a privilege I will strive to make the most of. I was drawn to the organization’s undeniable ambition, and the infrastructure it has to support it,” said Mascherano.
“I’m looking forward to working with the people at Inter Miami to help the Club reach new heights, and to give the fans more unforgettable moments.”
“Throughout his career as one of the world’s best players and as an experienced coach, Javier has always demonstrated what makes him great - relentless determination with the knowledge, instincts and understanding to back it up. We’re very excited to welcome him to lead our team,” added Miami co-owner David Beckham.
Mascherano has previously earned his stripes as Argentina’s U-20 and U-23 head coach. In 50 matches he earned 28 victories, 10 draws and 12 losses.
Mascherano will be tasked with not only leading Miami into the 2025 season, but helping to heal the wounds of 2024 after they crashed out of the playoffs in the opening round at the hands of Atlanta United — a team they finished 34 points clear of in the regular season.
