Francesco Acerbi and Davide Frattesi are facing a race against time to recover for Sunday’s game between Fiorentina and Inter Milan.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Benjamin Pavard will undergo further checks today after limping off the pitch last night.
Pavard started Tuesday’s home clash against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League.
However, a muscle injury forced him off at the tail-end of the first half.
Simone Inzaghi introduced Yann Bisseck, who helped the Nerazzurri keep hold of a narrow halftime lead.
Indeed, Inter squeezed past Die Roten Bullen 1-0 to ascend the Champions League league-phase throne.
But they lost Pavard in the process.
The Frenchman has joined Acerbi on the sidelines after the Italian veteran sustained a muscular problem against Hellas Verona.
Acerbi had to come off after just 15 minutes during Inter’s 5-0 thrashing of the Italian minnows.
Therefore, he was unavailable for selection on Tuesday, making way for Stefan de Vrij.
The Dutch center-back was phenomenal, but Acerbi could reclaim his place in the starting line-up next Sunday.
However, he must overcome his injury problems first.
The same goes for Frattesi, who was in the stands last evening alongside the former Lazio defender.
Unlike Acerbi, the highly-rated midfielder is struggling with a minor ankle issue.
But there’s a genuine optimism around the Nerazzurri camp over his timely recovery.
Piotr Zielinski stole the spotlight in Frattesi’s absence.
Indeed, the Polish midfield dynamo shined bright against Leipzig, filling the shoes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Zielinski’s reassuring performance can put Inzaghi’s concerns at ease, even if Frattesi fails to regain full fitness in time.
Taking three points at Stadio Artemio Franchi could prove a tall order, given Fiorentina’s purple patch under Raffaele Palladino.
As such, Inzaghi will likely need all hands on deck to navigate this challenging task.
