Inter Milan Legend Defends Iran Star After Blunder In Juventus Loss: ‘The Defenders Did Well To Stop Him’

Nerazzurri legend Beppe Bergomi feels Mehdi Taremi doesn’t deserve too much blame for a missed pass in yesterday’s Serie A win by Juventus over Inter Milan.
Bergomi gave his thoughts on the Iranian’s failure to find teammate Lautaro Martinez, and his performance as a whole, on Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908.
The Iranian international was in the starting lineup for the Derby d’Italia, as Marcus Thuram was not at full fitness.
Ultimately, it was not the kind of performance that would be necessary to really cement Taremi’s place at Inter.
The 32-year-old did have one spectacular attempt with an overhead kick.
And then there was one moment in particular where Taremi led a counterattack for Inter Milan. He did very well with a charging run forward, but then seemed to be caught in two minds.
In the end, Taremi simply lost possession, not seeing the opening to play in his strike partner Lautaro Martinez in space.
Taremi in that moment seemed to sum up Inter’s lack of ruthlessness in the final third.
The passing angle did appear to be there for the former Porto striker to play in Martinez.

But in the view of former Inter captain Beppe Bergomi, “the Juve defenders did well.”
However, Bergomi also noted that “He needed to get his body in the way of it there.”
“He had the ball taken away,” the former Inter captain said.
Meanwhile, of Inter’s drop-off from the first half to the second, Bergomi said that “Juve changed things up.”
“Inter tend to play at their best in the first half, and at the start of the second half.”
“Then at the end of the match they start to drop off a bit,” he added.
“The Nerazzurri always managed to find plenty of space, particularly on the flanks. But in the second half Juve were more aggressive, and it was easy for them to win the ball back.”
