Inter Milan are reportedly eyeing up Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro as a replacement for Yann Sommer in goal.
This according to Spanish outlet El Nacional, via FCInterNews. They claim that the 29-year-old is the Nerazzurri’s preferred option over Andriy Lunin, Gregor Kobel, and Diogo Costa.
Inter will likely have to replace Yann Sommer in goal in the relatively near future.
The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper will be 36 at the end of the current season.
There has not been any decline evident in Sommer’s performances so far this season. He has held down the starting spot, and also put in some outstanding displays in goal for Inter.
However, the fact remains that the Swiss’s age means that he will certainly age out of the team sooner or later.
Therefore, Inter are looking into replacements for Sommer, El Nacional reports.
Inter have already signed one keeper who they view as a potential long-term replacement for Sommer.
That would be Spain international Josep Martinez. Inter signed Martinez from Genoa in the summer transfer window.
Martinez impressed with the Grifone last season. However, so far this season the 26-year-old has yet to make a single appearance for Inter.
Therefore, there are still some doubts about whether Martinez will be able to take over from Sommer in the long term.
And if the former RB Leipzig keeper is not to pan out in the role, then Inter could search for a new long-term successor to Sommer between the posts.
And according to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Inter will not look to sign a player from within Serie A as they had done with Martinez from Genoa.
Rather, the outlet reports, Inter are monitoring a number of names from outside of the Italian top flight.
Among these, El Nacional claim, are Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel, and Porto’s Diogo Costa.
However, according to El Nacional, there is one name in particular at the top of Inter’s list.
That would be that of Real Sociedad keeper Alex Remiro.
El Nacional note that Remiro is a player who Inter see as ideal for the playing system of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
The Spaniard is marked out for his agility in goal as well as his technical ability with the ball at his feet.
