Inter Milan are ready to do everything to help captain Lautaro Martinez finally end his long drought in front of goal.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Martinez has now gone the better part of two months without scoring for Inter.
This means that the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa, among others, have scored more recently in a Nerazzurri shirt than the captain.
Goal droughts like these have been perhaps the worst feature of Martinez’s game at Inter.
At the start of the season, there was an evident lack of fitness after Martinez had lacked a full preseason.
In recent weeks the Argentine has certainly looked sharper. But he has not been able to finish any of the chances that have fallen to him.
It is not as though Martinez’s goal drought has been a problem for Inter.
The Nerazzurri put six goals past Lazio, despite the 27-year-old failing to find the back of the net. They also beat Hellas Verona 5-0.
However, sooner or later Inter will want Martinez’s goals to return.
The Argentine has been Inter’s top scorer in each of the last three seasons.
Martinez’s relentless goalscoring week in and week out for much of last season was crucial for Inter’s ability to pick up points as consistently as they did.
Therefore, starting with Como this Monday, getting Martinez back on the scoresheet will certainly be a priority for Inter.
