Hakan Calhanoglu has emerged as one of Europe’s best-performing midfielders since swapping AC Milan for Inter in 2021.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, only four midfielders have outperformed the 30-year-old since his Bundesliga debut in 2013/14.
Calhanoglu made a name for himself in Germany with Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen before joining Milan in 2017.
However, after four topsy-turvy years at the club, he shifted allegiances at Stadio San Siro three years ago.
It would eventually prove a career-defining decision.
Indeed, the Turkish star has blossomed at Inter, becoming the team’s midfield mainstay.
Calhanoglu significantly contributed to Inter’s league title last term.
He tallied 13 goals and three assists in Serie A alone, establishing himself as the division’s most lethal midfielder.
But Calhanoglu’s scoring exploits and remarkable playmaking skills stretch beyond Italy’s borders.
Indeed, his assist for Carlos Augusto in Inter’s 2-0 home win against Como earlier this week saw him hit an incredible milestone.
That was his 74th career assist. On top of that, he boasts 76 goals.
For context, only Kevin De Bruyne (223), Marco Reus (172), Angel Di Maria (170), and Dimitri Payet (162) have done better in the last 12 years.
