Ipswich Town have failed with a move to bring in Southampton midfielder Flynn Downes, according to talkSPORT.
Kieran McKenna is looking for last minute deals which can strengthen his side’s chances of surviving in the Premier League this season.
His eyes have been drawn towards fellow strugglers Southampton, who beat Ipswich at Portman Road at the weekend.
Ipswich have gone in to Southampton to see if they would make Downes available to move.
Saints though have rejected the approach for the former West Ham United midfielder.
Ipswich will have noted that Downes was not in the team for Saints’ win against them and spied a possible opportunity.
It remains to be seen if Ipswich will go back in for the midfielder in the remaining hours of the window.
Downes has been booked in 50 per cent of the Premier League matches he has played in for Southampton this season.
