For many outsiders, the departure of Jurgen Klopp and the arrival of Arne Slot at Anfield was heralded as a transitional phase for Liverpool.
However, the Reds have been a revelation in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season and with perennial champions Manchester City struggling, it almost feels as if a perfect storm has washed over Anfield.
The harsh reality of football lingers however, with all Liverpool fans very aware of how quickly things can change and the Reds and their army of supporters will be keen to see their side cash in, on the incredible start they have made to the 2024/25 campaign.
As the Premier League makes the turn for home, Liverpool are odds-on favourites, with old and new sportsbooks alike to win the title this term but they know they will need to fight to the end to achieve that goal.
Cup competitions have provided more joy than the league for Liverpool over the past few decades and with the Reds in the hunt in the Champions League, and the Carabao Cup, a rejuvenated campaign could be unfolding on the red half of Merseyside.
Having seen arch-rivals Manchester United complete the treble in 1999 and new foes Manchester City also achieve the feat 2023, Liverpool can certainly achieve a treble of sorts this time around.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have all pushed the envelope in the Premier League in recent seasons and whilst more often than not it has been Pep Guardiola’s City who have come out on top, the dominance of the aforementioned three sides has been striking.
Arne Slot’s impact at Liverpool has been huge so far and he has brought about a consistency and desire within this Liverpool side to win every game that they play. With just one league defeat in 24 games, Liverpool have been the pace setters since the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
Being able to shuffle his pack, whilst also keeping the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo firing has been key to Liverpool’s success this season and they are showing no signs of easing off the gas.
Challenging games await them, with a trip to Manchester City and a home game against Arsenal looking like the toughest games on paper but it would take something seismic for Liverpool to let this one slip.
Having won the European Cup on 6 occasions, Liverpool’s status as one of the elite sides in European football remains fully justified and the Reds have been the standout performers in the new-look Champions League in 2024/25.
Winning all of their first 7 games saw Liverpool surge to the top of the standings and despite a last-game loss to PSV Eindhoven, they sit pretty in first place in European football’s elite competition.
Navigating the knockout rounds of the Champions League is never easy and they will have a target on their backs as one of the sides to beat but they have done all they can to give themselves the best chance of tasting European glory once again.
For all the plaudits Jurgen Klopp rightfully collected during his time at Liverpool, the enigmatic German only managed to win one Champions League and one Premier League title – a statistic that pales in comparison to his contemporaries Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.
However, Liverpool and Klopp enjoyed an excellent record in domestic cup competitions, with one FA Cup and two Carabao Cups acquired during his tenure.
Liverpool are the current holders of the Carabao Cup, and it will certainly be an intriguing final against Newcastle United at Wembley on March 16th.
It was Manchester United who brought Liverpool’s quadruple bid to a crushing end last season in the FA Cup and the Reds suffered a shock 1-0 defeat away at Plymouth Argyle this time around, albeit with a weakened team.
Despite this defeat, Liverpool are still in top form and having swept aside Spurs in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, 4-0, they will be confident of getting over the line in the final.
With the Premier League seemingly locked up, the Champions League presents an intriguing opportunity for them, especially with their record so far this season in the competion. A treble of sorts, is certainly very much, still on the cards.
