Ruben Amorim has defended striker Rasmus Hojlund, who has not scored at Old Trafford in 2025.

Man United suffered their 15th league defeat of the season, as they lost 1-0 to Wolves at Old Trafford. The loss leaves the Reds 14th in the Premier League table.

Amorim contended: “If you look at the game, we were the better team, but in the end it doesn’t matter we don’t score goals. It’s the result that counts, especially in these kind of moments.

“We created a lot of chances. We controlled the game, we blocked some good players from the opponent and then one set-piece, changed the game and that’s it.”

United did have chances in the game and were on top for most of it, but it was another ineffective afternoon for striker Hojlund.

However, Amorim doesn’t think that United’s lack of goals is all down to their struggling striker. He said: “We have several players that missed big chances, not just Rasmus.

“But of course, the game for Rasmus is to score goals because he’s a striker.

“But it’s a team thing. I already said that. Our team should score more goals. It is not just Rasmus that is missing chances, it is all of the team.”

It is clear that the Danish international needs to improve if he is going to continue to lead the line for United. Asked how he is trying to help him, Amorim explained: “The only way I know is to work with him, show him the videos.

“Like you said, he needs to score a goal. He will not score if he’s out. So I try to manage that during games. But he needs to score one. Maybe that’s all a striker needs.”

The Portuguese coach admitted: “We say to the fans the truth, that we lack a lot of things in our team.

“That we miss chances, that if we don’t score goals we are not going to win.

“We have a lot to do and to focus on improving the team, step by step and understanding that until the end of the league it’s going to be like this and then we need to do something.”

The 40-year-old manager continued: “We need to improve as a team because if you don’t score goals in this league, it’s impossible to win games.”
