Former Blue Jason Cundy believes Moises Caicedo is more important to Chelsea now than Cole Palmer and claimed he’s the best midfielder in the country.
Chelsea have made a brilliant start to the season and currently find themselves second in the table, just four points behind Liverpool.
Enzo Maresca has been able to improve a lot of players this season and the Chelsea squad are in a really strong position with a number of stars performing to a top level.
The likes of Nicolas Jackson and Marc Cucurella has made big strides forward this season, but arguably Chelsea’s two best performers have been Caicedo and Palmer.
Palmer has picked up where he left off last season and has 11 goals and six assists from 16 Premier League games, with Maresca saying he’s very proud to work with the England international.
Having initially struggled following his British record transfer from Brighton in the summer of 2023, Caciedo finish last season strongly, but has gone to a different level under Maresca.
The Ecuador international has surpassed the level he was at with Brighton and has put in a series of impressive performances throughout the season.

Frank Leboeuf described the 23-year-old as a “masterpiece” and it’s hard to argue against that claim given his current form.
Cundy has now claimed Caicedo is actually more important to this Chelsea team than Palmer and believes he’s the best midfielder in the country.
“I’ve been talking about Caicedo for a while now. This boy is the midfielder in the country right now,” he told talkSPORT.
“I think he’s our most important player. People will argue [Cole] Palmer, I get that and understand that. I think he’s our most important player because there’s so much he can do and does do.
“We’ve not seen the likes in the middle of the park winning the ball like that since [N’Golo] Kante. I’m not just talking about Chelsea, I’m talking about in the league.

“I’ve never seen in all the years I’ve watched football a midfielder win the ball back so many times in so many different areas of the pitch as N’Golo Kante. It was a unique skill that he managed to do, whether it be the edge of our box or up high on their box.
“Caicedo has shades of that. The way that he anticipates and snaps into tackles.”
