Jason Cundy believes the “time has come” for Enzo Maresca to drop Robert Sanchez from the Chelsea starting line-up.

Chelsea and Maresca took the decision to make the 27-year-old the number one for this season, whilst they sent Djordje Petrovic on loan to Strasbourg and signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal last summer.

Sanchez made yet another mistake in last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City, his fifth this season leading to the opposition scoring.

Cundy calls on Maresca to drop Sanchez

Despite his errors Sanchez has made a number of crucial saves this season to win points for the Blues, but his constant errors are proving too much.

The away fans booed the Spain international following his latest mistake against City, which was the clearest sign yet the supporters have had enough and want change.

Maresca has backed Sanchez publicly on a number of occasions, but dropped a strong hint he might not be number one next season.

Sanchez has made a number of costly errors this season.

Why Jorgensen hasn’t had a run in the team with Sanchez in the form he’s in is baffling, and Maresca faces a big decision ahead of Monday night’s game against West Ham.

Former Blue Cundy has urged Maresca to drop Sanchez and believes there’s now to much noise surrounding the keeper.

“Personally, I would take him (Sanchez) out of the firing line,” he told talkSPORT.

“I think the time has come because there is so much noise. Maresca is being asked pretty much every press conference, whether it be post-match or pre-match, he’s being asked about this. The errors are coming, and the errors are costly.”

It’s likely the vast majority of Chelsea fans will agree with Cundy and the constant questions about Sanchez is no doubt becoming a distraction.

With the race for the top four so tight, Chelsea can’t afford to continue with a goalkeeper who is constantly making mistakes because it could cost them Champions League football.
