The Portuguese wide man, who rejoined Celtic in January after an 18-month absence, has been gradually regaining his form and has already had a significant influence.

Since joining from Rennes three months ago, Jota has made 12 appearances, scoring four goals and providing two assists, reinforcing his importance to the team as he did during his initial time at the club. The 26-year-old acknowledged that he’s still striving for peak fitness but expressed satisfaction with the progress he has made so far.

“I am happy at the moment with how things are going,” Jota

“I think it’s been a good couple of games. Still trying to be in my best shape, and I know that will come definitely. I am happy at the moment with how things are going,” Jota said.

“We never know how far we can reach, so I’m not going to say that I’m aiming for this and then I can actually aim for something else. I just work hard day by day and just try and be the best I can.”

After difficult spells at Al Ittihad and Rennes, where he faced challenges with regular minutes, Jota has gradually regained the form that made him a fan favourite during his first stint at Celtic since returning to Glasgow.

“A matter of putting everyone together and fighting for the same goal.”

The playmaker also outlined the vital contribution of Celtic’s experienced players in mentoring the younger squad members, especially during the business end of the season where titles and cups are won.

“I think having lads who have been in this position for several years is really good. And then just passing the culture to the young lads who are coming through,” he said. “So, in the end, it’s just a matter of putting everyone together and fighting for the same goal.”

Jota also speaks about enjoying the sunshine in Glasgow when it’s here and the hints at the hassle he receives from the other mob in the city as he’s recognised not just by Celtic supporters wherever he goes.

Celtic face St Johnstone in the league then the Scottish Cup

As Celtic look set to defend their Premiership title, Jota’s input could be crucial in the final stretch of the season. Brendan Rodgers’ side will be aiming to maintain their long-standing winning run in Perth as they head to McDiarmid Park tomorrow afternoon. It will serve as an important warm-up, with a Scottish Cup semi-final against the same opponent looming in two weeks time.
