Borussia Dortmund vice-captain Julian Brandt is looking forward to going up against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich at the Westfalenstadion next weekend.
A performance of the highest quality helped Borussia Dortmund return to winning ways on Saturday as they romped to a 4-0 victory against SC Freiburg. Julian Brandt was also on target for the Black and Yellows, as he scored his first goal in the Bundesliga since May. And after the game, the BVB vice-captain spoke about what lies in store for the team next weekend when they take on Bayern Munich.
"It will be a sensational game, the fans are always happy to be in the stadium when Bayern come. It will be a very intense game. We had a very bad home game last year, but managed to win away from home again after many years. And now we're focused on winning the home game against Bayern again. But we have more important things to do in the Champions League first," Brandt told Sky Sport.
FC Bayern have made an excellent start to the season in the Bundesliga, and find themselves six points clear at the top of the standings. But they have also shown some vulnerabilities in the Champions League that Borussia Dortmund will hope to exploit.
Borussia Dortmund have won all their matches at the Westfalenstadion so far this season, and will be determined to keep that run going against Bayern Munich. And Brandt also spoke about what makes BVB so good when playing on home soil.
"Playing at home is different. It's always been like that, because the stadium is simply a special place with all the fans behind us. We've now come back well after the international break and have another chance to end the away streak on Wednesday."
While Borussia Dortmund have a poor overall record in Der Klassiker, they did manage to beat Bayern Munich when the two sides last met in March. And Nuri Sahin will hope for a similar performance from his side next weekend.
