Bayern Munich secured a 5-0 aggregate win over Bayer Leverkusen in their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday, beating Die Werkself 2-0 at the BayArena.
Speaking to Prime Video (via UEFA.com) after the game, Harry Kane was proud of the way his side defended their 3-0 from the first game.
“It was a really good performance. From the first minute, we didn’t want to be a team who dropped off and defended the lead. We wanted to be on the front foot, put pressure on, and create chances to win the game. We did that in the first half and had the better chances. Then, second half, we knew they had to come out and try something, and we punished them," said Kane.
The England captain added that he believes it says a lot about Bayern that they were able to win so comfortably against a team like Bayer Leverkusen.
"This is the fifth time we've faced them, and that game here away [last month] was the only one where they were on top. Otherwise, we were the team on top, and it was because we pressed high, with intensity. We got back for the second balls and then played our game from there.
"It's never easy when you have a 3-0 lead. Psychologically, you know. But I think the way we went about it today was a top performance. To beat this team 5-0 over two legs shows the type of team we are."
