Transfer expert David Ornstein has detailed the three ‘main options’ in front of Kevin De Bruyne when it comes to his Manchester City future beyond this season.

The Belgium international has been largely frustrated by injury and fitness problems throughout the ongoing season, and as such has shelved any intention of holding conversations with club officials over his Manchester City future.

De Bruyne has only recently returned to consistent first-team training and match involvement, having been sidelined for a couple of months with a groin and abdomen problem, as well as nerve pain whenever striking the ball with any force.

The midfielder said during a recent press conference, “Talks will come, if no talks come then it’s my last year. So I don’t know, I’m trying to be honest. People can say or write about it, I can’t affect that, I just want to play good football and we’ll see what the future holds.”

And while the uncertainty may continue around the football world with regards to Kevin De Bruyne’s future in the English game, it appears as though his options for next summer – when his current City contract expires – are plain and simple.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Kevin De Bruyne has three main options at present when it comes to his future; extend with Manchester City by another year, move to Saudi Arabia, or join Major League Soccer.

When it comes to the prospect of staying at the Etihad Stadium, Ornstein reports that the door is open at Manchester City and that the 33-year-old would ‘basically need to inform them of his intentions’ and that an agreement should be ‘straightforward’ beyond then.

As for the prospect of a move to the United States, it is reported that there have already been some conversations with Major League Soccer sides, but mainly centrally via MLS itself.

From the side of Manchester City, it is widely expected that senior club officials and those in recruitment positions have already started their work when it comes to sounding out a suitable replacement to a player that has been instrumental to their success in the last decade.

Recent reports from across Europe have tied the Premier League champions to varying levels of interest in Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich’s Germany stars in Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala – who are also attracting interest from the continent’s most powerful clubs.

It goes without saying that Manchester City would have to commit to a transfer fee north of £100 million – a new club record – should they wish to intensify their pursuit of either player in the coming summer transfer window.
