Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is learning Spanish amid rumours he could be sold by the club.
Mainoo enjoyed a wonderful breakout season last year in the first team, culminating in scoring a goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
This year has not gone as smoothly for the 19 year old but he is now establishing himself as Ruben Amorim’s preferred midfield partner with Manuel Ugarte.
Nonetheless, stories broke yesterday that due to the club’s precarious financial situation, nobody is safe from being sold, not even the academy gem.
There is said to be a “contract stalemate” between the two sides as Mainoo reportedly wants £200,000 a week to sign on the dotted line and Chelsea are said to be waiting in the wings should there be a breakdown in discussions.
CaughtOffside report that amid the uncertainty over his future, the Englishman has been learning Spanish over the last few months.
“In light of this, the news of the youngster learning Spanish may worry fans of the Manchester outfit as clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona would certainly have an interest in the midfielder.”
What’s more, “it may come in handy should any of the La Liga giants come calling in the future” for the England international.
Nonetheless, the 19 year old is said to significantly prefer staying at United and there is an innocent reason to why he is learning Spanish.
Speaking on why he started studying the language in May he claimed, “I started Spanish lessons on Zoom just to pass the time a bit.”
The Manchester Evening News has also reported that he started learning the language as there are up to eight Spanish speakers in the squad and to integrate better with them.
Therefore, perhaps this shows his desire to succeed at United rather than a yearning to move to La Liga at this moment in time.
