Borussia Dortmund appear to have found their replacement for Nuri Sahin, who was relieved of his duties as head coach last week.
According to Sky Germany, Dortmund and Niko Kovac have agreed a contract until 2026.
Shortly before Dortmund's Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, sporting director Sebastian Kehl told DAZN that the search for a new coach was "on the home straight".
Kovac could be officially unveiled as Borussia Dortmund's new coach ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Heidenheim.
The crucial meeting took place in a restaurant on Wednesday, according to Sky Germany, who reports that Hans-Joachim Watzke and members of the supervisory board were among those present.
Kovac was last in charge of Wolfsburg, who sacked him in March 2024. He's also been the head coach of Monaco, Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt and Croatia.
