Barcelona are of course locked in action at present, in a Champions League meeting with Portuguese heavyweights Benfica.

The Blaugrana headed into the matchup boasting a slender advantage from the tie’s first leg, owing to a 1-0 triumph in Lisbon last week.

And, this evening, Hansi Flick’s troops have built their lead yet further.

As things stand with 45 minutes on the clock in Catalunya’s capital, Barcelona lead by three goals to one. And the aforementioned Lamine Yamal has proven central as to why…

The 17-year-old first conjured up a moment of magic to lay on the assist for Raphinha’s opener, before turning goalscorer himself courtesy of a wonderful strike from distance 15 minutes later.

And as alluded to above, in the process, Lamine made history.

As revealed by statisticians Opta:

‘At 17 years and 241 days, Lamine Yamal has become the youngest player to both score and assist in the same Champions League game, surpassing Breel Embolo’s previous record for Basel against Ludogorets Razgrad in 2014.’
