Bristol City Women scored both sides of half time to knocked the stuffing out of the Magpies, who tasted defeat for just the second time this season in the Women's Championship.

While head coach Langley was happy with the preparation of her team heading into the fixture, the result ended up being a tough one to swallow.

"It's disappointing," Langley admitted post-match. "Our preparation throughout the week had been good.

"We were carrying momentum from the win against Birmingham and I just felt like we never really got going.

"In possession, I thought we were poor and ultimately the stronger team on the day won."

It was Newcastle who carved out the first real opportunity through Lois Joel, and while the Wales international couldn't convert, it looked to set the tone for the remainder of the game.

However, United only tested Fran Bentley twice in 90 minutes, which left Langley perplexed.

"We had one good chance in the first-half with Lois," the United boss said. "It was a great opportunity for us to take the lead.

"After that, though, we never worked the goalkeeper and didn't create enough in front of goal."

The loss to Bristol City will be a difficult one to take with the defeat bringing an end to United's three-game unbeaten run in the Women's Championship, but Langley knows her side can't let standards slip for a second.

She added: "You’ve got to be at it every week in this league and unfortunately we weren't against Bristol - and you can't afford that because teams will punish you."

Newcastle United Women are back on home soil for their next fixture, which sees them return to St. James' Park to take on Southampton Women in the Women's Championship on Sunday, 17th November (kick-off 2pm BST). Tickets are on sale now from book.newcastleunited.com.
