Serie A side Lazio got knocked out of the Coppa Italia at the hands of Inter yesterday, as the Nerazzurri picked up a 2-0 victory to cement their place in the semi-finals of the competition.
Marko Arnautovic and Hakan Calhanoglu got a goal each in each half to help Inter to a win, with Lazio putting in a disappointing performance after having knocked out Napoli from the competition.
Rovella spoke to the press after the game and he expressed anger about the result and that Lazio missed out on a chance to win silverware this season, even if the performance was good from the Roman side.
He said: “We shouldn’t look at Lazio’s individual games but at the team’s path. Tonight’s elimination makes us angry, we played better than Inter. They had two shots and two goals. It makes you angry but we will work even harder to improve.
“Unfortunately, we only lacked one thing: the goal. When you play in this stadium, against this team and you don’t score, it’s a problem. We only lacked the goal, the performance was good.”
He was also asked about the opening goal from Inter and whether there was a VAR issue in the build-up to that.
He said: “I can’t say about Inter’s first goal and De Vrij’s position, I’ll review the episode later. But there have been mistakes in the league. However, Lazio can be happy with the personality they had at the Meazza against Inter. I repeat, for me we played better than them. We need to raise the level in the offensive phase.”
Inter will now face Milan in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia and Juventus will face Empoli later today in an attempt to seal their own spot in the next round. Bologna are already in the semi-finals.
