Arrigo Sacchi feels Saturday’s draw between Napoli and Inter Milan was “a big missed opportunity” in the Serie A title race.

The legendary former AC Milan and Italy coach gave his thoughts on the weekend’s results in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan were close to extending their lead at the top of the Serie A table to four points on Saturday.

As the ninety minutes ticked away, the Nerazzurri still had a 1-0 lead. That was courtesy of a spectacular first half free kick by Federico Dimarco.

However, Napoli managed to break through late on in yesterday’s match.

The Partenopei had pressed frenetically for the equalizer throughout the second half. But for much of it, Inter were equal to it, with nearly faultless penalty area defending.

However, an opening finally appeared. Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka, his team’s outstanding player on the evening, found a gap to bring the ball into Inter’s penalty area, and substitute Phillip Billing forced the ball into the goal.

Former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi notes that “Inter and Napoli have a margin at the top that doesn’t allow them to slip up.”

‘The match at the Maradona showed that Conte’s team, after a tough period, have recovered and rediscovered their spirit,” he continues.

“And their desire to attack. Which previously, partly due to a physical decline, they’d lost.”

“Inter, on the other hand, didn’t seem as brilliant as they have at times,” Sacchi then argues.

“Having taken the lead, they only focused on defending.”

Sacchi notes that “I wouldn’t rule out the midweek match against Lazio in the Coppa Italia having had an impact.”

“But Inzaghi’s team need to get used to this overload quickly, it’s a missed opportunity.”

“They’ll need to manage their energy carefully,” Sacchi argued.
