Liverpool and Real Madrid set for 'meeting' over Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer | OneFootball

Officials from Liverpool and Real Madrid are set to meet at lunchtime on Wednesday to discuss the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to a report from Spain.

The England right-back's contract at Anfield will expire at the end of the season, with fellow stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in the same uncertain boat.

Alexander-Arnold is said to be open to a move to the Bernabeu, though any transfer likely wouldn't materialise until the summer with Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti insisting he has enough depth even after Dani Carvajal was sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The two clubs meet in a huge Champions League clash at Anfield on Wednesday and MARCA claim the two sides will sit down to discuss Alexander-Arnold's future. Liverpool are keen to know explicitly if Madrid want to sign the 26-year-old, having so far failed to agree a new deal to extend his stay on Merseyside.

Los Blancos will explore whether a January deal is feasible, according to the report, though Liverpool are unlikely to be keen on such an agreement as they aim to continue their flying start to life under Arne Slot.

The report claims Liverpool even reached out to Madrid over the summer to ask if they were pursuing Alexander-Arnold, who has returned to training and could feature in Wednesday's fixture.

Slot has previously insisted the defender has not been distracted by the uncertainty around his future, even though Liverpool are said to be 'resigned' to losing their homegrown talent next year.

If they aren't able to secure a transfer for Alexander-Arnold, Madrid may look elsewhere. The Spanish and European champions are said to be keeping tabs on Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro but could face competition from Manchester United and Manchester City.
