Liverpool: Arne Slot reveals timeline for injury return as key boost for Newcastle clash confirmed

Reds have some massive games coming up, including the Carabao Cup final and PSG in the Champions League
Liverpool will be without Conor Bradley for “a few weeks” due to injury, though Alexis Mac Allister looks set to be fit for Wednesday’s clash with Newcastle.
Right-back Bradley suffered a hamstring issue after replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold during the second half of last week’s 2-2 Premier League draw at Aston Villa and was substituted himself in the closing stages.
The Northern Ireland international subsequently missed Sunday’s 2-0 win at Manchester City that saw runaway leaders Liverpool move 11 points clear of closest title rivals Arsenal at the summit with just 11 games remaining this season, with manager Arne Slot having previously said that he was “99.9 per cent” likely to miss the midweek visit of Newcastle to Anfield too.
Bradley had initially tried to play through the injury at Villa Park before eventually asking to come off, which Slot conceded was not a good sign as he insisted Liverpool would have to wait to discover whether his absence would last for more than a week or two.
Offering another update on the popular 21-year-old academy graduate at his pre-Newcastle press conference on Tuesday, Slot said: “Conor Bradley isn't ok. He is out for a few weeks. It is clear that he went off with a muscle injury and it will take a while before he is back."
Bradley’s absence is a blow for Liverpool as it leaves them notably short on cover for Alexander-Arnold, who himself only recently returned from injury.
Versatile centre-back Jarell Quansah replaced the England defender for the final minutes at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with no Bradley and Joe Gomez also potentially expected to miss most of the rest of the season with another hamstring injury suffered just 10 minutes into his return against Plymouth in the FA Cup earlier this month.
Cody Gakpo made his return from missing two games with a heavy knock off the bench against City, with young midfielder Tyler Morton Liverpool’s only other known injury absentee at present after recently undergoing shoulder surgery.
Slot confirmed a key boost for the Reds with influential midfielder Mac Allister set to resume training at Kirkby on Tuesday after suffering a facial injury and admitted feeling dizzy after a first-half collision with City forward Omar Marmoush at the Etihad that came as the latter scored with an effort that was ruled out for offside.
The Argentine received plenty of treatment on the pitch but was ruled fit enough to continue and went on to play the full 90 minutes.
“Alexis Mac Allister will train with us today,” Slot said ahead of the meeting with Newcastle, effectively a dress rehearsal for the Carabao Cup final between the same two teams at Wembley on March 16. “I think he is ok.”
With Arsenal facing a potentially tough trip to Nottingham Forest off the back of their shock home loss to West Ham, Liverpool will be hoping to maintain or potentially build even further on their huge title lead when they battle Newcastle on Wednesday, as well as potentially dealing a psychological blow ahead of the Carabao Cup final, with the two teams having played out a memorable 3-3 draw at St James’ Park back in early December.
The Reds have some other key games coming up as they close in on a 20th title and first since 2020, including their heavyweight two-legged Champions League last-16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain and another Merseyside derby against Everton.
